Using Multiple Cameras with Zoom

Summary

Zoom allow for multiple cameras to be used by the instructor in each meeting.

Faculty and staff can improve their Zoom meetings by adding a second or third camera to focus on detailed demonstrations, provide wide angle shots, and facilitate a more comprehensive classroom .  Zoom allows for multiple cameras to be used in the same meeting.  Examples of secondary inputs include cameras focused on whiteboards, maps, classroom demonstrations, or additional classroom information. Fall deployments include secondary cameras focused on art, music, writing, sewing, STEM, and science courses.  These cameras can also be used to create videos that students can download and watch either pre or post lecture. 

In a classroom, if there are multiple cameras in a room you can choose one as the primary video feed and one for the secondary feed.

  1. Connect the external camera to your computer.
  2. Log into your Zoom meeting, and click the Screen Share button.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Choose Content from 2nd Camera.
  5. Click Share.
  6. Zoom will automatically place the shared camera in full-screen mode:
    1. Press ESC to exit full-screen mode.
    2. Click Switch Camera in the top left to switch to your other video.
    3. Spotlight/Pin video: the host can Spotlight video from the secondary camera so that it remains the most prominent for all viewers. Participants can Pin the video so it remains most prominent for them.
  7. Use ALT + N to toggle between the cameras as needed
