Changes to Student m365 Accounts Spring 2026

Tags o365

During the week after Spring 2026 commencement, Allan Hancock College will transition student Microsoft 365 accounts (email, OneDrive, and Office apps) to a new environment. This change will improve support, communication between students and faculty, and enhance account security.

Student username, email address, password, and MFA will NOT change.

Important: Back Up Your Data Before May 22

At the time of the transition, ALL existing emails and files stored in your current OneDrive will become permanently inaccessible.

Students are responsible for backing up anything they want to retain.

Please save your data to a personal storage location such as:

  • Local storage on a personal computer
  • A personal cloud storage account like OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox
  • A USB/external hard drive

After the transition, your new student OneDrive will be empty. You may re-upload your saved files at that time.

What Will Happen During the Cutover

During the cutover period:

  • Outlook and all Microsoft Office applications will be unavailable.
  • You will not have access to your student email or OneDrive.
  • Access to the old account will end completely.

What Will NOT Be Affected

You will continue to be able to log in to:

  • Canvas
  • myHancock Portal
  • Library systems
  • Other non-Microsoft student web services

After the Transition

Once the migration is complete:

  • You will log in the same way you do now.
  • Your email address, username, password, and MFA will remain unchanged.
  • You will receive a new mailbox with no previous messages.
  • Your OneDrive will also be new and empty.

Recommended Actions

  1. Back up your files and emails before May 22.
  2. Remove any important messages or attachments you want to keep.
  3. Watch for the late-April update announcing the exact cutover date and time.
  4. Plan for a temporary outage of Microsoft services during the transition.
